Hi! You are now browsing the personal website of mfred, a French software engineer, currently based in Tokyo.
This site
I don’t have precise plans for this page yet, but I am currently planning to publish a blog with technical articles about software engineering or other scientific topics, and share some standalone Javascript tools. Unless specified otherwise, content on this site is produced under license CC BY.
Even though English is not my primary language, I intend to publish most of the content in English, as it should make the content I will produce accessible to a wider audience. I may still produce content in French from time to time.
I currently use Claude Code for proofreading, but all the content will obviously be produced by me.
This is the first time I set up this kind of page, so I am going with what seems to be a fairly popular static website generator (Hugo) and a lightweight theme (hugo-bearblog).
I maintain the content of this page in a private git repository hosted in sourcehut, and I host it using sourcehut pages. As this platform does not provide any metrics on the site’s traffic, and as I do not plan on deploying a client-side analytics tool, I currently have literally no idea if someone else reads the content of this site. This was not something I initially thought about, but I find it interesting, and will keep it as-is for the time being. Still, if you really want to let me know that there is someone reading this, please email me!
This website’s favicon is the Japanese kanji 惟, rendered using the font Hiragino Mincho ProN (which I think is ok to use license-wise – please let me know otherwise). The idea of choosing an ideogram as a favicon comes from David Madore’s weblog. One day, I may explain why I chose this character.
Happy browsing!
